This restaurant, nestled at 57 E Oak St, is a hidden gem that offers a variety of small plates, soups, salads, and large plates to tantalize your taste buds.
One of the standout features of Le Colonial is its exquisite small plates, such as the Banh Cuon, a rice noodle ravioli filled with Miller Farms Chicken and Wood Ear Mushrooms, or the Banh Uot, sesame beef rolls wrapped in flat rice noodles. These dishes showcase the fusion of flavors and textures that define the restaurant's culinary style.
Additionally, their large plates are equally impressive, with must-try options like the Banh Xao Noodle Stir Fry with beef, chicken, shrimp, or tofu, and the flavorful Bo Luc Lac Shaking Beef. Each dish is crafted with precision and care, making every bite a delight for the senses.

Stepping into Le Colonial transports you to an island where you feel welcomed and relaxed. We had reservations however decided to dine at the bar. Our drinks were lovely to start with. My colleagues and I decided to try a bit of different items to share. We went with the Shaking beef (mind you I'm not that big of a beef eater) but this was divine. Juicy tender pieces of beef accompanied with veggies...so yum. The Chicken stir-fry...was good but not as tasty as the beef. Also, the Ceviche! A different take on what a typical ceviche is. This one was delicious with the different flavors. It was so good. I highly recommend it. The dumplings was good as well but nothing you can't get somewhere else. I really think the star of this show was the beef. I can't wait to try the location back at home in Florida. Bar seating service 9/10 Food 10/10 Ambience 10/10
We always enjoy a late lunch at Le Colonial. We're creatures of habit so we always start out with one of their cocktails, lately I've been especially enjoying the lychee one and the we share a bottle of champagne or cremant. We always get one of the tuna appetizers and one of the crispy rolls. Shaking beef is a favorite entree, as is the green shrimp curry, the spicy stir fry and the brussel sprouts side dish. Service is always exemplary and we enjoy the decor and the whole vibe of the place; its a touch stuffy but in a good way. Recommended
Great day to sit at the veranda. Service is always hit or miss at this place. Food, however was always on the spot. Cocktail knowledge could be more implemented for servers.. Lotus root salad was absolutely delicious! Also, biggest disappointment for the coffee. We love chicory coffee, and that wasn't even close to it. Will visit again for pho weather!
What an exceptional place! A colleague recommended it and we went for my birthday. The place is gorgeous and a quick and beautiful walk in the heart of Magnificent Mile. The food and service were both phenomenal. We started with the lotus root salad (the dressing was so good with deliciously marinated tofu). We split the chicken curry and the shaking beef with a side of rice. The meal was absolutely delicious! What a memorable evening! Perfect for a special occasion!
Love the decor, the food, the service! All top notch. My favorite was the fresh spring rolls, just delightful. Kinda pricey but you're paying for an experience and was aware of that before going. In love with how elegant this place is, if you're thinking to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or graduation this is the place! Feels like a restaurant from another time.
Le Colonial is a Chicago must-have! I visited on a Saturday evening for my birthday and was not disappointed in the service, or the food. I highly recommend a reservation (and to be mindful of the dress code) it was a busy Saturday evening and the restaurant was buzzing and lively. Though busy, the restaurant was still intimate with dim lighting, smooth music, and that fine dining feel. My server was extremely sweet. She was happy that I was there celebrating my birthday and did a great job making me feel special! The food was so yummy! I kept it simple but the food was elevated in quality, and taste For drink, I had one glass of Prosecco to start as I took my time to browse the menu. When I ordered my food I also ordered the "Passion" cocktail at the recommendation of my server which has mezcal and passion fruit. So so yummy perfect rec. For a starter I went with the "Cha Gio" which was a crispy shrimp and pork roll. Golden friend, nice crisp, packed with meet and met with bold flavor especially when paired with the chili lime dipping sauce. For my main entree I went with the popular "Banh Xao" a noodle stir fry, I added beef! Wow wow soooo good, I loved the wide noodles, the zing from the stir fry sauce and the beef was extremely tender. This was also very filling and I ended up having enough to go for lunch the next day. (It was even better the next day). I ended my night with the warm chocolate cake. Which they added a candle for my birthday! This was not your average cake. They lit it on fire??? Then put the ice cream on top of the fire for the perfect melt?! Omg I've never had anything so decadent, rich and moist! Overall Le Colonial is as perfect and cannot wait to get back and try other things in their expansive menu!
Le Colonial way exceeded expectations and was the best way to be introduced to French-Vietnamese fusion cuisine Roasted duck: definitely satisfied my cravings! the skin was slightly crispy and the taste was really similar to Cantonese-style roast duck. The sweet picked carrots and radish sprinkled on top were a great addition to the dish and the sweet sticky dipping sauce was absolutely delicious. Also really loved the mushroom sticky rice on the side! Spicy green curry with shrimp: shrimp were super juicy and bouncy and the green curry was very creamy and fragrant! I loved the addition of crunchy julienned bamboo shoots! Seared scallop noodle salad: more of a cold rice noodle dish than a salad? the dressing was absolutely delicious - it was fragrant and light but the flavor was so unique and balanced
One of my favorite restaurants for both the food and ambiance. There are three distinct "sections" that give off very different French-Vietnamese vibes. It transports you to outside of the city. The food is always delicious. I've tried 85% of their menu, and nothing disappoints from the pho, to the spare ribs, the red snapper, the shaking beef, curries, scallop salad, crispy egg roll, etc. Cocktails are also tasty, global, and refreshing. This time, the one off putting aspect was how focused one of the hosts were on us having to clear out by 6:45. Our reservation was 2 hours earlier and we ran a little late so we gave them a call and from that point onwards, the host kept pushing that. We left before 6:45 but were definitely concerned at how fixated they were on that.
The ambiance was nice. I really enjoyed the plants and the artwork. We started with the Cha Gio (crispy shrimp and pork roll) and the Banh Uot (Sesame Beef Ravioli). Both were pretty good, but not out of this world. The roll was pretty classic and the ravioli was definitely more unique. The signature fried rice was better than I was expecting given that it had broccoli which I thought would be weird, but was actually really good. The Shaking Beef was by far the best dish and I would go back just to have more of it! Two apps and two mains was a good amount of food for two people and we went home with a little bit of leftover rice.
